Black Screen on startup

I've seen other people have the same issue but haven't seen a solution that works.

I have:

Made sure to patch the game
Made sure Visual C++ and Directx were working
Running as admin, compatibility mode with Windows XP SC2, visual themes disabled.
Deleted old documents folder for protectors as well as the video folder in the game's files.

The game starts up with a black screen and ingame cursor, and I hear the music and menu sound effects.

Looking at the logs, it seems the game doesn't detect my resolution? I'm running the game through a virtual machine, so the resolution might be the issue, but the game also opens up in windowed mode so I'm not sure.

Any advice would be great!

As an update, still no luck running TP but regular WB3 (Steam version) seems to run without a hitch.

Go to mydocuments/theprotectors/settings and open options.json with notepad. Edit the values related to resolution to a standard value, like:

If that still doesn't work, try setting windowed mode to 0.
