[SOLVED] An old bug. A new year

Ok so here is my situation:
1. I got wbc 3 from steam.
2. I played it once on steam.
3. The next day I try to start wbc and it tried and failed after a few seconds.
4. I try to use compatibility/screen resolution/reinstall/Run as admin etc nothing works.
5. I decide to try Protectors: I installed the latest version with patch A and patch B.
6. I play once
7. step 3 occurs after two or 3 times playing.
8. See step 4

Notes: I understand that this has been solved with the latest patches but I'm not sure if it has been for 2020.

I also understand that this is a long shot in asking.

Furthermore my computer has been refurbished due to cracks in the partitions

Have you checked your AV software?

I think you should exclude TPC folder from AV scanning.

Also try setting compatibility to Windows XP SP2 for all the .exe files in tpc directory.

Tried both. did not work. same result.

This might be a silly question but have you turned direct draw on?

If the screen goes black and the game immediately closes, that may indicate a resolution error. It may be that the game can't figure out what monitor you're using or what resolution you're running it at. There may be problems with display port and certain inbuilt displays.

If it's not that, then I suspect that it's been caused by a windows 10 update, in which case I can't help since I don't use it. Someone else will know more. Have you tried everything on here? https://the-protectors.forumotion.com/t352-how-to-run-wbc-series-stably-on-modern-setups

Ok so apparently you have to have a sound device (I.E speakers or headset) active in order to actually run the game.
